ONE MORE WEEK TO GO!!!!!!! and it’s going to be a blast!

Due to an enormous response with the addition of team 6C joining us for our D’Bo’s Luncheon, I have decided to move our team’s Luncheon Day to Thursday, May 22nd @ 11am.  I am concerned with the high volume of orders for 8 classes the probability of errors could occur. However, if this moves poses a problem please email me asap.
Monday- We’re continuing to collect moneys for the D’Bo’s Luncheon.  Tuesday will be the last day to place your order.  In math class, we will use compasses to draw dangerous curves. Laptops will also be available to visit www.coolmathgames.com

Tuesday- IT’S FIELD DAY!! Come in and enjoy in all the fun. Last day to bring in D’Bos moneys.

Wednesday- Students will review final exam.  Classes will also continue to with work on dangerous curves activity.

Thursday- Reading Lock-in and D’Bos Luncheon celebration.  Can’t wait!!!

Friday- Write fun poems and songs about our 6th grade year in math. Students will share creations.!!

It’s been a fun 6th grade year and i’m gonna miss each and every one of you.  Have a super-fantastic summer vacation!!!

ALL MATH CLASSES: week of May 12 - May 16

Our D’Bo’s Luncheon is quickly approaching.   Please place your orders and turn your money no later than Monday, May 20th.

Class Activities for the Week:

Monday & Tuesday: Classes will complete Group Activities involving critical thinking and solving problems. They include:  Broken Squares, Infallible Geometry IQ, Disorganized Data, and Compass Drawing.

On Wednesday: Students will use only their math journal to complete an END OF THE YEAR final exam in math.  This assessment will cover skills from chapters 1 - 14.  It will have 80 questions: half multiple choice and half simple answer. This will be the final grade in Math.

ANY MATH COUPONS YOU WOULD LIKE TO USE FOR THIS 4TH 9WEEKS MUST BE USED BY THIS COMING FRIDAY MORNING.  NO COUPONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 11:00 AM.

Thursday and Friday: Classes will continue working on compass designs and percentage activities.

APARTMENT PROJECTS ARE DUE THURSDAY BY 8:15AM.  BE SURE TO BE ON TIME.

MONEY DEADLINE FOR DBOS LUNCHEON IS MAY 20TH.  GET YOUR ORDERS IN IF YOU’RE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING.

REGULAR MATH CLASSES 

Monday students will work in groups to compete in Video Mindjogger for Chapter 8.  Afterwards, student will take Chapter 8 test on INTEGERS using journal notes and math textbook as a reference.  Students will use Tuesday and Wednesday as final preparation days to complete work with partners for Apartment Project due on Thursday.  On Thursday, pairs and individuals will present projects.  At the close of the week, students will work on tax project including gratuity and shipping/handling.

HOMEWORK: None for week.  Complete work on project.

ENRICHED MATH CLASS

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR UPCOMING D’Bo’s LUNCHEON WILL GO HOME MAY 1.  IT WILL BE ON MAY 21ST AT 11:00AM.

Regular Math (1st & 3rd periods) pp. 294-320

Review adding and subtracting Integers. Students will take Mid-Chapter 8 Test which will cover lessons 1 -3 on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Classes will learn rules for multiplying and dividing integers in lessons 4 & 5. Study your facts and recall that same signs equal positive answers and different signs equal negative answers. A quiz on lessons 5 & 6 will be on Thursday. Later on Thursday, we will begin our final lesson 6, The Coordinate Plane. Students will learn to plot points, identify the four quadrants, and recognize points using coordinates. On Friday, classes will review and take quiz on lesson 6.

Homework: None. However, work on and collaborate with partner to complete math project due Friday.

During Class this week students will be given time to work on Apartment Project as well.

Chapter 8 Test will be Monday.  SPIs this week-6.1.3;6.1.11;6.3.2

Enriched Math- Chapter 9 (pp. 333-369)

Students will continue to review distributive property and  solving two-step equations in lesson 5 of Chapter 9. On Wednesday we will have a quiz on this skill.  Also during the week, students learn to complete function tables and find function rules in lesson 6.  On Thursday, students will students will learn to graph functions from function tables into coordinate planes in lesson 7.  Students will complete an practice activity on Friday from lessons 6 & 7.

Homework: None. However, work on and collaborate with partner to complete math project due Friday.

During Class this week students will be given time to work on Apartment Project as well.

Chapter 9 Test will be Monday.   SPIs this week 6.2.4;6.2.2;6.1.9;6.2.5;6.2.3

Students will begin Apartment Project.  Information will be sent home on Tuesday.  This project is due on Thursday, May 8th.  Only a few days will be allowed to work on this project and school.  Partners are optional, but the amount to spend is the same- $3800.00. Please follow guidelines and examples from given information sheet and rubric for a winning grade.

Regular Math Classes will begin in Chapter 8: Integers while the Enriched Math Class will review and continue in Chapter 9: Solving Equations.

GALLON MAN MATH PROJECT is DUE on this THRUSDAY!!!

Follow the Checklist for the components below
* Draw or Create an action figure of capacity.
* Give your figure an unique name.
* Name the liquid within your figure.
* Create a catchy slogan that incorporates his/her liquid content.
* Use all of the customary units of capacity as this bodily functions appropriately.
(fluid ounce, cup, pint, quart, and gallon) (half a gallon is optional)
* Make sure body parts/units are connected to the correct equivalent units.
* Label all body parts with the appropriate unit and color coordinate all units.
* Figure must be created and attached to or drawn on the given
construction paper.  (no large posters.  free standing figures must have a base)
* A key of all units must be provided in color code.
* Project Due in math class Mar., 3/27(THURS.). No late projects accepted.

Monday:     Classes will review customary units of measure for mass, capacity, and length.  Students will work on various standards practice in TCAP workbook.  s.p.i.- 6.4.3
HOMEWORK:    pages TN-6 and TN-7 #s 1-7 on each page

Tuesday:       Classes will review homework and continue standards practice in TCAP workbooks. Students will learn the units of the metric system and using appropriate measures. The students will learn the KHDBDCM Acronymn for converting metric units.  Text reference 490 - 496.  s.p.i.-  6.4.3

Wednesday:    Continue standards practice in TCAP workbooks and practice converting metric units.  Students will take final THINK LINK math test tomorrow.  s.p.i.-6.4.3

Monday:     Classes will continue review of probability with independent events in lesson 5 of chapter 11.  Hands on activity will follow using problem solving.. s.p.i.- 6.5.6; 6.2.2
HOMEWORK:    page 454 #s 8 - 15.

Tuesday:       Classes will review homework and practice making predictions of sample groups using suveys.  Text reference 440 - 441.  s.p.i.-  6.5.5; 6.5.6
HOMEWORK:    page 398 #s 12 - 18 all

Wednesday:    Classes take a practice timed TCAP test using calculators. Introduce elements for the gallon-man project.  See below for grade components.  This assignment will be due on Thursday, Mar. 27th.   s.p.i.-6.4.3
HOMEWORK:    NONE

Thursday:     Classes will review practice test and strategies of solving the more difficult problems. Students will continue review and practice of costumary units of measurement in length, capacity, and weight. Parent Conference Night tonight from 3:30 - 6:30.  s.p.i.- 6.4.3
HOMEWORK:     none

Friday:       Continue working with measurement in the metric sytem.  Practice changing units using the King Henry Theory.  Text reference pages 476, 485-86, and 492.  .s.p.i.- 6.4.3; 6.4.4; 6.4.6
